Species list

The nominate Stichophthalma howqua howqua occurs in North China with 6 sub species occurring further south to Vietnam and west to Yunnan province.

Stichophthalma howqua suffusa is regarded by some as a full species with it's own sub species but as I've said before, I'm no taxonomist so I've listed them all under Stichopthalma howqua.

Stichophthalma howqua iapetus (type locality is Sa Pa mountain, Lao Cai province, north Vietnam) not sure of exact distribution of this sub species, those on here are from the type locality but I have very similar specimens from Yunnan province, see sparta gallery.

Stichophthalma howqua formosana comes from Taiwan (originally called Formosa) once very common, now very hard to get hold of, if anyone has any old specimens laying around I would be interested.

Stichophthalma howqua tonkiniana comes from north Vietnam, especially the Tam Dao  mountains, but also flies with iapetus in Lao Cai, this is one that is regarded as a sub species of suffusa. The specimens I have from both Tam Dao and Lao Cai are not as suffused in the hindwing as photo's I have seen though I understand that both sexes have 2 forms, not seen any information on this.

Stichophthalma howqua miyana from Canton and Stichophthalma howqua bowringgi,  I don't know the locality, I have not seen any information or photo's of these 2 sub species and would appreciate any info you can send me.

Stichophthalma howqua suffusa comes from central, western and south China provinces, ground colour is very pale, especially the males, they have very suffused black hindwing markings, my specimens on here are from Sichuan province.
